About Me :)

Photographed by Ashiara Divine

Japhet Chukwuma is a fine art and portrait artist located within the DMV area. His images address questions of identity, feelings of nostalgia, loss, wonder, and the full spectrum of human emotions. His atmospheric images often evoke a sense of melancholy and play with the temporal nature of time and memory. The artist uses a combination of both conventional, digital, and alternative processes, however his preferred method of working is with film and a medium format camera. The works of Carrie Mae Weems, Edward Weston, Gordon Parks, Edward Hopper, and Alfred Stieglitz are just a few of his artistic influences. His work appears in the online publication of PhotoVogue and has been included in several regional juried exhibitions. He was recently awarded a Kaplan grant from Towson University’s Center for the Arts to document the creation of the Asian Arts Garden reconstructed by John Powell.

More of his work can be found on Instagram.
